TYPES OF MEDICAL GASES
CO₂
Medical carbon dioxide (CO₂)
Medical carbon dioxide (CO₂)
Carbon dioxide is a colourless, odorless, non-flammable and an asphyxiating gas. During expansion, carbon dioxide can be cooled down below sublimation temperature. The Medical Carbon Dioxide supplied by Messer meets the requirements of the European Pharmacopeia and is registered by Messer as a medical device in various Messer’s subsidiaries.
Medical Carbon Dioxide can be applied in various indication areas:
Internal usage: the gas is used in gaseous form as an insufflation gas for minimally invasive surgery such as laparoscopy, endoscopy and arthroscopy to enlarge and stabilise the body cavities. This results in a better view of the surgical field.
External usage: in cryotherapy and cryoneurolysis, liquified gas at -76 degrees Celsius is applied to the skin for pain relief. In addition, the product can be used for carbon dioxide baths as a remedy against low hypertension, vascular diseases, cardiovascular disorders etc. to generate analgesic effects and increase blood circulation.

CLOSELIN
Liquid nitrogen (LIN)
Liquid nitrogen (LIN)
At normal ambient temperatures, nitrogen is a colourless, odourless and tasteless gas. Under atmospheric pressure, nitrogen is liquid at a temperature of minus 196°C. The Medical Liquid Nitrogen supplied by Messer meets the requirements of the European Pharmacopeia and is registered by Messer as a medical device in Messer’s subsidiaries below.
Medical Liquid Nitrogen is widely used in cryo-medicine. With a temperature of -196°C, nitrogen as a medical device is ideal for various cold applications, for instance:
In cryotherapy (cold wind treatment) for preventing rheumatic diseases. Medical Nitrogen is successfully used for local cold-air applications and cold-air application for the whole body.
In cryosurgery for the operation of cryosurgical instruments
In cryo-preservation for freezing preservation of biological materials such as cells, tissue, blood, seeds, etc. Since nitrogen is also non-toxic, tasteless and chemically inert, it offers optimal conditions for the preservation of living cells and biological tissue.
